Some Reality

Bob Comtois

In cart Not available Out of stock

My elegant, harmonious ballad.

Some Reality Remixed from the newly discovered 4 track master tape, My winsome ballad sounds better that ever.

Diverse in styles, harmonies, and rhythms and using a blend of unusual instruments such as mandocello (heard here on Some Reality) with a unique vocal style.

The Frog Prince Returns

Bob Comtois

In cart Not available Out of stock

Ever surprising pop-rock with mandolin blended in behind unique vocals.

The Frog Prince Returns is Bob Comtois' sixth album containing recent and very recent original songs. It is surprising pop-rock music that sounds like Leonard Cohen making The White Album while listening to Pet Sounds. Bob plays all the instruments and sings all parts. He also engineered and produced the album. Bob blends in his punchy mandolin here and there, as well as his vintage mandocello. The result is eclectic and very pleasing.

What It Is

Bob Comtois

In cart Not available Out of stock

Accessible, inventive rock pop from Boston Street performing legend. "What It Is" is the Third CD Baby release by Bob Comtois, featuring the meaty bass grooves of Mike Martone.
Singing, playing electric and acoustic guitars and mandolins, mandocello (laced with keyboards), Comtois performs lively rhythmic, harmonically surprising, melodic rock-pop originals, with a touch of folk. His voice, immediately accessible is underscored by his unusual blend of string instruments. The electric mandolin is always an attention grabber, although is almost always perceived as another instrument. Long-time Boston street performer, Bob Comtois played in such bands as Strings Attached, Hoot Spa, and The Verbs. Television, radio, nightclubs, colleges. and the press took note and walked up with great interest after experiencing a lively set by Comtois and crew. "What It Is" delivers an unusual but familiar sound to those looking for engaging rock-pop

Horse Sense

Bob Comtois

In cart Not available Out of stock

"Horse Sense" chronologically follows "With Relish", though it was 10 years before it was released. A bit more experimental and always eclectic, but accessible, rock-pop music.

My name is Bob Comtois (pronounced, cone-TWA). For years I played mandolin and sang on the streets of Boston and its sister city, Cambridge. Perhaps you were among the few million people who stopped and watched me and my bands play in Harvard Square or by Fanueil Hall. Among you were Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, Peter Wolf, and The Impressions. Television, nightclubs, radio and colleges came to us, but it was always the exuberance of the street performances that was so exciting. My bands (i.e.Strings Attached, Hoot Spa, The Risa Benson Band, Public Domain and The Verbs) encountered some wonderful fans and visitors from around the world. They loved to dance to our upbeat sound- unique for its blending of folk-rock and R&B replete with sax, electric mandolin, great harmonies, and fun antics. Guest artists such as Bela Fleck and Patty Larkin graced the street and stage with us. We were pretty accessible in the 70’s and 80’s. Things are difficult to keep together, band-wise. So, over the years, my home studio became the place where musicians would come as I learned production techniques while I recorded many of my original songs as well as those of my clients. I am very proud of my work with my dear friend, fellow Boston street performer, and soul singer, Gerry Mack. I also have worked with Boy’s Life’s John Surrette, 70’s pop guru, Andy Pratt, and co-produced "Rainy Day Sunshine" by Whistle Jacket. "Horse Sense" is a collection of my songs written and recorded in 2003 to 2004. The music is eclectic, quirky, rock/pop. The electric mandolin is very chameleon-like, weaving in and out of the multi-textured sounds I tried to convey. Along with electric and acoustic guitars, I play mandocello and electric mandola, besides my punchy, rhythmic acoustic mandolin style. My vocals are certainly distinctive. I hope you like what you hear, as I have albums and albums worth of material ready to be released.

Love's Mishaps

Bob Comtois

In cart Not available Out of stock

Pop/Rock performed with a blend of guitars, mandolins and distinctive vocals. "Love's Mishaps" spans 1982-2012. Bob Comtois was a presence in The Boston music scene. With his bands (Foxfire, Strings Attached, Hoot Spa, Public Domain, and The Verbs) he played for millions on the streets alone. Clubs, colleges, and the media took notice. Blending the mandolin and electric mandolin in with R&B, rock, swing, and folk rock, Comtois sang lead and harmonies. Throughout the years Comtois produced recordings by a variety of artists: Andy Pratt, Whistle Jacket, and Gerry Mack among many others. Having recorded 400+ of his originals, Comtois will offer a steady stream of releases. The style is eclectic, melodic and rhythmic. It is rock/pop music that will surprise. Bob Comtois plays all the instruments (acoustic and electric mandolins, mandocello, electric mandola, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, percussion, analog synth, and vocals) except on "Seven Sad Sisters" on which Dennis Dungan plays upright bass and Holly Gettings sings a backing vocal.
